Celebrating Inclusion and Empowerment
At Abilities, we believe in building a community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered. Over the years, we've hosted some incredible events that have brought people together, sparked meaningful conversations, and, most importantly, reminded us of the power of inclusion. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of our favorite moments!
Organization Showcase
Sometimes, the best way to make an impact is through a simple conversation. Our organization showcase events provided us with a platform to connect with students, introduce them to Abilities, and share valuable information about disability awareness and campus resources. These moments allowed us to break down barriers, answer questions, and create a more understanding campus community.
Trip to the Air Force Museum
This was one for the books! We took a trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, where we explored incredible exhibits, stood in awe of historical aircraft, and learned about aviation technology. It was a day filled with curiosity, inspiration, and plenty of laughs along the way.
Therapeutic Horseback Riding Event
Horses have a special way of bringing people together, and this event was proof of that. Participants had the chance to interact with these amazing animals in a supportive and therapeutic setting. Whether it was grooming, leading, or riding, everyone walked away with a renewed sense of confidence and connection.
Pumpkin Painting Event
Who doesn’t love a good fall festivity? This event brought out everyone’s creative side as we decorated pumpkins with all kinds of fun and colorful designs. It was the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit while sharing laughs and making new friends.
PA Awareness Week
Personal Assistants (PAs) do so much for our community, and we wanted to make sure they felt appreciated. During PA Awareness Week, we shared social media shoutouts for our favorite PAs and surprised them with coffee and donuts to say thank you for all they do. It was a small gesture, but the smiles on their faces made it all worthwhile!
Movie Screening of Crip Camp
This event was more than just a movie night—it was an eye-opening experience. We screened Crip Camp, an inspiring documentary about the disability rights movement, and followed it up with a meaningful discussion. It reminded us why advocacy and inclusion matter and motivated us to keep pushing for change.
Adaptive Rec
One of the highlights of our weekly activities has been Adaptive Rec. Every week, we’ve gathered to play adaptive sports like wheelchair basketball and goalball, proving that sports should be accessible to everyone. It’s always a fun and energizing way to stay active, build confidence, and form lasting friendships.
Looking Ahead
Every event we've hosted has left a lasting impact, and we’re beyond excited for what’s next. Abilities will continue to create opportunities for connection, learning, and, of course, plenty of fun! If you’re looking to be part of an inclusive and welcoming community, we’d love to have you join us.
